For our 7th 2021 NORDPLUS CAPE Network Zoom Webinar series, we had as our guest presenter, researcher Isabel Coppola. Isabel (she/they) is a recent graduate of the University of Vermont, Burlington, https://www.uvm.edu/ Vermont USA where she received her bachelor’s degree in political science and environmental studies. Her honors thesis entitled Eco-Anxiety in the Climate Generation: is Action an Antidote? explored how young people who are involved in environmental organizations are experiencing eco-anxiety and other climate emotions. Isabel is a 2021-22 Fulbright Finland Foundation Student Research Grantee https://www.fulbright.fi/ at the University of Helsinki https://www.helsinki.fi/en in Helsinki, Finland. On their Fulbright, they are working with Dr. Panu Pihkala, an expert on eco-anxiety, to continue their education and research on climate emotions. She is particularly interested in understanding how populations outside of academic and activist spheres are experiencing climate emotions and how a deeper understanding of climate emotions may help guide society to navigate the climate crisis and a way forward.
