The NORDPLUS for Higher Education’s Creative Arts Pedagogy and the Environment / The CAPE Network ZOOM Webinar #6 Maria Hieta, Finnish Meteorological Institute, Helsinki, Finland October 28, 2021

Maria Hieta works as a research engineer in Planetary Research and Space Technology group at the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The research group has provided meteorological measurement instruments for many planetary landers, NASA’s Perseverance being the latest. Maria’s work focuses on developing, building, and testing these instruments in order to study the atmospheres of different solar system bodies. Comparative planetary science aims to learn something new about our own planet by studying for example the atmosphere on Mars. In a concise clear manner, Maria articulates the complex issues related to the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s current and previous Mars research projects and subsequent actions as they relate to the Earth’s atmosphere and environment. We also learn/see how Maria directly has participated in/contributed to NASA’s Perseverance MEDA: Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (about which she is quoted at this link:  https://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/tiedote/6Vl0ohBJSCC5kiqvXhFN1t )
